Description This layer displays the AMC value (Antecedent Moisture Content): the data is calculated using the cumulative precipitation for the five days before the current day being compared with three seasonal-dependent thresholds provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (the former Soil Conservation Service) of the United States. If the accumulated precipitation over the preceding five days is:
  • less than 10 mm in the dormant season (October to March) or 35 mm in the growing season (April to September), AMC is equal to 1 (dry soil)
  • between 10 and 30 mm in the dormant season or 35 and 50mm in the growing season, AMC is equal to 2 (average saturation of the soil)
  • more than 30 mm in the dormant season or 50mm during the growing season AMC is equal to 3 (saturated soil)
